I am trying to get a rough value of an ovation guitar. It is a 1991 Collectors Series, Legend 1117. Serial number 366974 (although my certificate of authenticity lists 970 as the serial #). Can anyone give me a rough estimate as to the value of this guitar? It is in nearly perfect aesthetic condition. Or any leads as to where I can get a valueation of this guitar?

The collectors have two s/n so to speak. The 6 digit serial number and the series number that is what number of however many were made that year. Check Elderly in Lansing Mi, they could tell you what they'd sell it for or Timm Kunner at MARS Vintage or ebay. Someone else here might have some input too.

Howdy Kev and CWK!

I was under the impression that the '91 Collector's was basically a Balladeer rather than a Legend. Were there two different '91 Collector's? One on a Balladeer and the other on the Legent?

I picked up a Black w/Blue MetalFlake '91 and was told it was a "Dressed Up" Balladeer.

the guitar says "legend" right on the label. Anyway, if no one knows a value, can anyone just tell me if this is more of a "rare" guitar, or a "stock" guitar?

If I had to guess, I'd say your guitar might be worth $5-700. But there is a way to find out the market value.

List your guitar for sale on ebay. Start the bidding at a buck, and let it run for 10 days. Put your hidden reserve at, say, $2000 (in all probability, the bidding won't go that high... and if it does, sell your guitar and buy an Adamas). When the auction is over, you'll know the market price of your guitar.

Or you could do a search to see if someone else has tried to sell that guitar. A search for "Ovation 01 Guitar", then clicking the completed items link turned up the following...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=857907058

The bidding started at $959, no one bid. It was relisted

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=860577110

and is currently up to $925 with one bidder.

This is for a 2001 guitar, not a 1991.

I did find 1 1991 Collector's guitar at

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=860348053

It was a 25 year aniversary collectors guitar.

It had a buy-it-now for $649 without any takers.
