Location: SoCal | I'm bummed. After thirty years of playing Ovations and reading about others' problems with them, I just picked up my 25 year old Legend and found a finish crack extending down from the bridge. My first experience with this. Damn. |

Location: Zion, Illinois | I thought those finish cracks extending from the bridge were standard features on Ovations :D
As long as it stills sounds great it will be Ok; the pain will subside.
Imagine how I felt when I bought my Custom Legend last year. Best sounding guitar I've ever owed. One month later the top cracked from the middle of the bridge down, not a finish crack but a real gap-in-top crack. Sigh.
Still sounded great though.

I remember how I felt when I discovered the finish crack in my '76CB. Hopefully, yours won't culminate with the same result as mine.
Maybe there should be FC (finish crack) and SC (structural crack) added to the color suffix digit on the model numbers!!
Has anyone ever experienced (or heard of) top "failure" on any of the Adamas models? |

Location: puerto vallarta, mexico | my 76 balladeer did the same thing paul. i patched the cracks and reglued the bridge and put it back to work. a guitar with character. (or a character with a guitar?) |

Location: 6 String Ranch | Adamas tops can't crack and there isn't enough finish on them for that either. The dirty thing that they can do is delaminate if smacked hard enough. This will show up as a slight buzz or rattle on certain frequencies. Not really a good fix for it either, except ebay. |

Location: NJ | I think if the guitar takes a direct hit on the strap button you are almost always going to get a crack I have no clue why. the finishes also seem rather thick so that maybe another reason for finish cracks. I have seen some adamas guitars with sunken tops but nothing that made them unplayable |

I have noticed a slight, little almost indiscernible "buzz", but I thought that maybe it was something in the neck. |

Location: Scotland | Cliff, don't panic yet, if it's an electro there's loads of potential culprits for that buzz. Check the battery compartment, the prongs on the jack sockets, the preamp, the nuts on the controls or anything else that may be slightly loose inside.

Location: SoCal | On wood top Ovations, I've heard that the finish crack develops because the wood breaths but the body doesn't. Anybody have any thoughts on this? |

Location: Scotland | If a wood top dries out, either because of incorrect storage, or because the moisture content was too high at manufacture, it will shrink. The fibreglass & the finish stays put, result - a top crack.

Location: 6 String Ranch | Could be just the wrap on the string at the bridge. Could also be a loose brace. Could be your bass player passing gas. Could be alot of things. |
