I recently inquired of Kaman via internet for information regarding my Ovation Celebrity CC53 (classical cutaway acoustic/electric made in Korea). I was told via e-mail (didn't save it unfortunately) that this guitar was first shown in an Ovation catalog in 1992 and last shown in 1994.

Checking your serial number list, I find that the guitar was built in 1982. Likely the Ovation support person who responded to me made a typographical error and meant 1982 instead of 1992, but thought I would see if you can tell me anything. The guitar is flawless and looks brand new so, if it was indeed built in 1982 (as I now believe is correct), it has not been used much if at all.

Thanks for any help.

I went looking thru my catalogs and the only one I in which I found mention of your guitar was from January 1994 catalog. It lists your guitar as a deep bowl with a cutaway and natural finish with a thinline bridge (acoustic electric). I couldn't find anything in 1983 catalogs on your guitar leading me to believe that Ovation was right on when they built those guitars. I can't explain the serial number question.

I think the serial numbers in the reference section only apply to USA made guitars. I will investigate/verify that.

Many thanks for the information and appreciation for the promises to further the search. I'm still confused about the instrument, but will eventually learn everything I want to know. :D

The serial numbers do only apply to USA made product. Who knows what logic or series of numbers was used for the Koreans. There is a logic to it thought.
This guitar was made in 92. 1982 was the year we made the first trip to find a suitable factory. I found one and also learned to like Kimchi and massive quantities of garlic, but that's another story. The applesause was first and the celeb came a couple years later (maybe 83 and 85). The factory picked was the Saehan Guitar company. KMC switched away from this factory in the mid 90's although I don't remember the year.
