It was nice to see several Ovation solidbodies at the show. One person had a Preacher, Breadwinner and Viper, another a UKII yet another a Preacher Deluxe, and there were two Magnum Basses. Also, the BassMan dealer had 2 Magnums that he is saving for the Philly show. The prices were reasonable and instruments is excellent shape. The Breadwinner was a litte odd as it had low serial number, bridge had nylon saddles, and it had the Preacher/Deacon style Humstumper active electroncs which didn't exist until several years later. It was a tortoise shell pickguard, cut for the smaller pickups, but something just didn't look right and there was not a tortoise shell pickguard on Deacons. It was still a very nice breadwinner and it was available at a good price. I think the only guitar that sold was the cream Viper and I made a nice trade to get the Magnum III to finish my collection.

On a drive back it was good I was paying attention when an elderly women in a late seventies lincoln merged into my lane with no warning. Plenty of time to slow down but if I was not paying attention it would have been fatal. Plenty of celebrity guitars the show priced in the 375-600 range. a 94 collector's in very good shape for 800 (great deal) and a 79 balladeer in pristine shape for 375 Tbe owner of the last guitar and I had a conversation about why he felt the bottom fell out of the Ovation market..Funny an hour later I sold a mandolin, Adamas SMT and a 2001 collector's series guitar. So maybe the market is still there for the higher end instruments much like it is for many other companies.

Look at the Musicians Friend catalog and you'll see almost all low end guitars. But when the high end Ovations go on eBay, they usually get snapped right up. Velly interesting, but schtupid.

The music superstores do the low end thing very well. They buy guitars by container loads and are able to retail them much cheaper than the local mom and pop store. This applies to ALL BRANDS not just to our beloved Ovation. So what happens is vendors find a niche. For me I tend to stay with Adamas and upper end guitars. If you go to the superstore of your choice you may find 1 Adamas. Check my website and I have a variety. When Miles wanted a 2001 collectors' he was able to come over and A/B the center sound hole with the epaulet model. I have yet to see one of each in any store I have visited. You are correct about e bay and higher end guitars getting snapped up. There is a demand for them you just have to shop a little harder to find them.

My brother played a 120 bass accordian that we traded a 36 chevy for that my dad bought at auction for $21, our friend Bill played a scrached up Martin that he bought for $20 or so and I played a Silvertone laptop steel and rythm guitar on an archtop Kay (action at 12th fret, one inch). We played polkas, waltzes, and square dances, and practiced in our dairy barn even in winter cause country music was not for decent people to be playing in our house. The dances were great fun cause the square dancers didn't belong to any club. There is your vintage guitars, Kays, Silvertones, etc. unplayable and sounded like S--T but you could buy one for $15. Did you see any at the show? Bailey
