Location: Orlando, Florida | Hello everyone. I have a question for all you experts. Maybe someone can help. I just purchased a 1994 Ovation Elite Standard 6868, and I noticed that the string placement is slightly odd. The 1st string (high E) is closer to the edge of the fretboard than the 6th string, rather than being equal on both sides. Is this in the design, for some reason? It does take some getting used to, because the high E string seems to slip off the fretboard when some downward pressure is applied. Is there anything that could be done to fix, or at least compensate for it? By the way, it has the wider saddle with a FET 3 preamp. I have 3 other Ovations (a Balladeer 1111, an Ultra 1517, and a Celebrity Deluxe CS-212) and none of them has this design. Is it a defect or not? Does anyone know anything about this? |

Location: SoCal | It might just be that the string is not centered on the bridge correctly and can be moved over. Sight down the neck from the bridge and you will be able to see if the strings are spaced evenly. If the treble E string is too far over, you should be able to just push it over at the bridge. Look for the simple things first.
Of course, being simple minded, that's all I can think of. |
