I have a six month old left handed Legend cutaway with the five piece neck. I had to buy it sight unseen - one of the curses of being left handed. It appears to have a V type neck like the older Strats. It didn't bother me much at first. I was too intrigued by all the other cool features of the guitar. But over time it has come to irritate me more and more especially after I place other accoustics with different necks. The V shape is not my favorite neck shape. Call me spoiled but I prefer the lower profile necks offered by Taylor and others.

A few questions:
1. Are other neck shapes available from Ovation?
2. I know the neck bolts on but would they have to steam the fingerboard off where it joins the top?
3. If no other neck shapes are available from Ovation do you think I could have a woodworking friend recontour the back of the neck? Isn't the truss bar more towards the front of the neck under the fretboard? I consider it a working guitar rather than an heirloom quality instrument. I don't mind modifying it to get it just right for me.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Interesting I don't view the necks as having a severe neck shape.

Call John and Kim in service and talk to them re neck shapes.

Yes they would have to get the fingerboard loose from the body to change the neck.

If you get someone to alter the shape of the neck I am sure it can be done but will void your warranty

RE: Ouestion #3. When a guitar neck is built/made it is of a "size" that will allow it to preform its main function, " to stay straight & allow for playability". A truss rod is placed in the neck for two purposes 1. to stiffen and provide strength 2. to allow for "adjustment" of the relief in the fretboard. If you alter the shape of the neck too much(by removing wood to "smooth out the V), you run the risk of having it bow or twist. I would say stick with Al's recommendation and talk to the factory to see if in fact a different neck can be installed.
