Location: Salina, KS | I am looking for a good travel guitar, to go along with my Balladeer! Is the Trekker a true travel... I mean will it fit in an over head on a plane? |

Location: NJ | Yeah, a full size guitar/case WILL fit, but it's HIGHLY unlikely (especially nowadays) that they'll let you bring it aboard.
At one time I was considering the Martin Backpacker - till I tried one.
The neck is small and hard to "finger", it's almost impossible to play without a strap, and they sound/volume is "eh!".
I know nothing about the Trekker.
But I did have the opportunity to try a BabyTaylor. Not too bad.
The neck was "maneuverable" and the sound was decent for it's size, and in a gig bag you could probably get onto a plane.
And it was only about $250 (the BackPacker I ried was $200). |

Location: SoCal | I flew from Orange County CA to Kansas City a couple of months ago on Southwest Airlines. I took two guitars, my old Elite and a Viper electric. I checked the Viper and carried on the Elite thru connections each way. Never had a problem getting on the planes. |

Location: NJ | No offense Paul, but bring 'em out here to New York and try to get 'em home.
(Although it MAY be a little easier with electrics.)
Years ago (when I worked for 3M), I used to be able to carry mine onto Northwest to Minnesota and then they started making me check it, so I stopped.
If an airline advertised themselves as being "guitar-friendly", they'd get MY business. |

I was prepared if the airlines gave me a bad time. I had the stings loosened and the case taped up with duct tape (also good for solving diciplinary problems with your kids!). I was going to bull the guitar thru to the gate at least, and if I couldn't get it on, I would have had it hand carried to the baggage hold and then hand carried off.
But the airlines were so nice that one person even let me pre board with it, along with the old and infirm folks. Think they were trying to tell me something? |

Location: Seattle | I think the Trekker is the best of the affordable 3/4 size guitars. It sounds much better than any of Taylor's Babies. I seem to play it more than anything else. It sits on my couch and calls to me. |

Location: Salina, KS | Well, I posted this about a month ago... I got a Trekker, paid about $200 for it, and I love it. I have taken it to camp, on vacation, fit perfectly in an over head. The thing I love is that the sound, although not as good as my full size Ovation, is still good. It doesn't sound like a backpacker or a ukilale. The action is good, and the guitar is sturdy, good for travel! |
