There was a thread a while ago asking about the musical preferences of the board members, & I noticed they were a few Warren Zevon fans, myself included. A friend of mine just sent me this:

http://www.clubnashville.com/

Zevon has terminal lung cancer. His comment about his condition on the press release is typically glib. He's been one of my heroes since I heard his first album 25 years ago. aged 16. If my mother could've deciphered the lyrics I'd have been sent to my room. I'm absolutely devastated.

What a shame ... not even lawyers, guns and money can get him out of this.

Recently listened to "The Envoy" after not hearing it for many years... great song ... and amazing how 25 years have not changed international politics one bit.

Glad I had a chance to see him a couple of times. Will spin some old Zevon vinyl and raise a glass in his honor tonight.

Uncanny, my band rehearsed "Lawyers Guns & Money" last night. I got to see him solo a couple of years ago, the show was a little disapointing, but at least I got to see him. The new album "My Ride's Here" is great, typical sicko Zevon stuff.

I saw Warren quite a few times back in the day. Great band and performer. He was hanging around the philly area because he was involed with Anita a morning dj on WMMR.
Saw him at a college show and a drunken frat boy offered him his bottle of southern comfort. Warren was fresh out of rehab grabbed the bottle and smashed it against the mic stand base and ripped the frat boy a new one. everyone audience and band and promoters etc were stunned. He continued the show but something was missing. Frat boy started freaking about his whisky and was ushered out.

Man, that's so terrible. Zevon is one of my absolute favorite performers.
I feel real bad that it had to happen to him. After the album Life'll Kill Ya about growing old and the final song pleading "dont let us old, dont let us get sick..." It just upsets me.
I hope everything goes easy for him and that he can continue living his life and working on that musical. Now that he's back on his feet creatively, and working strong I wish him the best. I have all his cds except for the envoy...what an incredible guy.
