Just got back from a local guitar show and for a change there was a dealer with a few Ovation solids; A Breadwinner, A UK2 & a Viper. The UK2 had a 3 piece neck, mahogany with a maple centre stripe. I've necer seen an Ovation solid with anything other than a 2 piece neck. Anyone else seen 3-piece necks?

The Breadwinner was unusual in that it had a tortie pickguard & a GLOSS white finish. There was no headstock logo, so it's probably a refinish & the dealer wasn't keen on me poking around to find out. He claimed it was ex-Abba.

The bread could be real if the finish was the gloss polyester. Did it look like a white acoustic guitar?
I don't recall ANY three piece necks on the UK2s. Was it the 5 piece like the acoustics?

Did some sniffing around & found the local luthier who refinished the BW (Need a partner Paul M?) The UK2 neck appears to be genuine. It was a later type with the P.deluxe-type inlays & Schaller bridge. Neck was 3-piece, natural mahogany with a single maple laminate, about the width of the 3 centre-layers on a 5-piece.

Must be real then, just too much work to rip one of those off. And not much demand. Also Paul, copies never get it quite right but you know enough about them. If you think it smells right, it probably is a one-off.
