Location: North Carolina		Hello again - is this pickup/preamp active or passive? If active, where is the battery stored/replaced? There is a black box w/wiring connected to volume knob and another black box to the right of volume knob box. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Location: Scotland		All USA factory pickup systems have active preamps. The 1615 Pacemaker had the basic single knob FET preamp. I could be wrong but I don't think the Pacemaker was ever issued with the concentric vol/tone knobs. There should be a screw just above the waist on the bass side. A quarter-turn of this screw releases the battery holder. You may need to loosen the strings and hold the battery box while you turn the screw
