It still sounds good & looks reasonably nice. Where did you buy it? You got a very good deal if the guitar was not factory second or factory reconditioned guitar. Have fun & enjoy your Ovation! I sent private email to the seller and made them a reasonable offer ($525 and they pay the shipping). I checked with them, it is not a factory second and it is in flawless condition (they sent me lots of pics). Alina

The guitar could be made in 1996 & didn't get sold till the seller bought it 6 months ago. Many eBay sellers lied about the real age of their guitars. It happened to me before. The seller said he bought the Ovation 3-4 years ago & could not find the serial no anywhere on the guitar. When I received it, the serial no indicated that the guitar was 10 years old.

Joined: October 2002 Posts: 56 | Funny you should ask... The owner gave me the serial number, and I checked the Ovation website and the guitar is a 1999 model, which is clearly more than 6 months ago. I asked the owner, and they told me that *THEY* bought it 6 months ago, but that it was purchased used from the original owner (who had it for 2 years, apparently). I had interpreted their statement to mean that the guitar was bought new 6 months ago. It does not really matter to me. The guitar is not stamped as used or a factory second. The pics show a flawless Legend 1867. At $525 (including shipping, capo, leather strap and cord), it is a bargain even if it is actually 2-3 years old. Some of the pics were posted on the ebay listing (which did not meet their reserve price): http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=921647848 Alina :)

Joined: December 2002 Posts: 1 | I was in a big name store the other day and saw an Adamas 1681. I'm not a guitar player but was looking to buy and learn to play. The guitar was quite expensive. $1720 US. (with tax) Me...not knowing much about Ovations...went home and decided to research about this model before even considering buying it. And I found out that this model has been discontinued in 1997. the guy did say that it's the last model they have...but he also said that it's a new guitar. it did feel very nice...but quite a bit out of my budget...and I'm wonder if this guitar is even older than 1997. There isn't much info on the web about this model. I was going to buy 1777. Any advice?

There are many deals discussed here that are much better than the one you mentioned for someone who wants to play guitar. If you just looked at the Ebay guitars that have shown up on various posts, you would get a feeling for whats available, and the merits of the new models have been discussed frequently. Right now, the Elite T looks like a good investment. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Bailey

It was simple, I wanted to replace my old 12 string (a very nice Yamaha FG412) and decided that Ovation was the way to go! So, I ordered the CS245 and awaited its arrival. Then it happened, I realized I needed a new guitar stand. So down to the local store. To my surprise there was a beautiful 1767 ASW (Angel-Step-Walnut) (92 vintage) sitting in the stand for sale. Well, since I didn't have a 6 string, I decided what the heck. Now, I have two. Pictures coming soon. :p

If it's nice and you like it, go for it. I don't think that "new" has the same distinkshun for guitars as it does for cars or refrigerators and the like. Actually getting an older but still "out of the box" has some appeal to it.
