Great guitar!! I have the same one from the late 80s. Deep bowl needs to be custom made now. They don't come with cedar top either. I think you price it too low (at $500?). All of the 1763s I saw on eBay were sold for $600-650. I would buy yours if I didn't have one already.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Paul, I'm looking for a beat up case. How 'bout I buy yours for $25 and you throw the guitar in for free? A serious question - As you know I have a similar 1713 in black. Do you know if the black ones are cedar also? Dave

Gee, $25 for the case and toss in the guitar? Not. Dave, it's my understanding that 30 years ago the classicals were made with Spanish pine, but somewhere, about 25 years ago they went to cedar. To the best of my knowledge, all the classicals had cedar tops regardless of the color.

sunny ,FYI all classic models are made with AAA cedar tops. 1773,S773 on mid bowl,1863 on s/s bowl.I'm sure you are thinking of 6773/6774 which are spruce top artists models. ;)

Good catch, I meant they don't come with AAA cedar top anymore. For some unknown reason, current 1863 comes with AA cedar top only.

Paul, my GC/Barcus-Berry Classic prototype was built in 1970 and definitely has a cedar top. I know it's a proto but if they had a cedar top kicking around for this, they probably were producing at least some others as well.
When I first got the guitar it didn't occur to me why it smelled so bloody good after it had been left in the case for a couple of days, and then it dawned on me... :)

Sunny I'm not sure where you are getting your info but once again ,ALL cedar top guitars are made with AAA cedar. I work at the factory and can assure you we don't get anything less than AAA cedar! We do however grade these AAA to colors ,-4 nat,S s-series, -5 black (used on EA63 vipers only) I hope this clears it up for you. ;)

Why don't you look at your company's Web site for information? It says clearly that 1863 uses AA grade cedar.

Are you sure all cedar top Ovation's use AAA cedar? Even S773 Balladeer? The cedar top is non-graded. Not even A.

Are you in sales? How long have you been with Ovation?

Speaking from the rocking chair on the porch I can recall that ceder tops used to be only natural finish. There is more oil in the wood than spruce and the stain had a harder time adhearing to the wood. Maybe they got better stain these days.
