Location: Las Cruces, NM | Just a heads up for those who are tracking well known musicians playing Ovations. The new Guitar Player mag has a photo of David Gilmour of Pink Floyd Playing an Ovation with a carved bridge and truss rod cover. An interesting note is that he identifies his M---- D-35 as his acoustic played on the most songs but he chose the Ovation for the photo. I'll leave it up to the experts to say what model he's playing.
The back cover has the 2003 Collector's Edition.

Location: NJ | I believe that all of the acoustic guitar work on the "Animals" album ('77) was done with Custom Legends by both Messrs. Gilmour and Waters.
Saw the "Animals" tour that year at MSG.
A sizeable flock of Ovations on the stage that night.
Ahhh, those were "heady" days (in more ways than one)!

Was finally able to locate the issue of GP w/David Gilmour. Looks like a mid-70's Custom Legend. At first glance, it looked like he was playing a guitar with NO strings on it! Upon reading the article (about a new live acoustic DVD done with classical overtones) he refers to it as a "high strung" Ovation using all unwound strings. According to the article, this is the very same guitar and set-up that he used for the recording of "Comfortanly Numb". |

I just got the new Gilmour DVD, very good.
His Custom Legend looks to be in very good shape for oldie.
He also plays a very tasty Gretsch Duo Jet (looks like a late 50's model).
Excellent disc, highly recommended. |
