Joined: December 2002 Posts: 19 Location: new jersey | Hi Everyone first what a great board for a new Ovation fan learned a lot reading the old posts. I Just got my Ovation Ultra gs at a local music store. I am a beginner and bought a package deal one of the other brands and the guitar was ok but I was having a hard time with chords. But I Picked up the Ovation JUST LOOKING and it fit prefect and well the rest is history. What a great playing guitar. It seems the Ovation strings have a little more spread at the nut and this makes it easyer to play at least for me. Is this true or is it just the one I bought and is the gs and gp the same in this string spread at the nut.

What pickup configuration is it and what kind of tremolo does it come with?? Just curious. The Ultra GSs weren't the greatest quality guitars but are awesome player guitars. I personally find I play my GSs a lot over many other "pricey" guitars I have. As for string spread (I'm assuming you mean the spread at the first fret), I don't find it particularly more spread out than any other guitars I have including other Ovation Electrics. Anyone have other thoughts? What I do know that it may be easier to play because you can get the action pretty low on these puppies without the buzz (on my GSs, I have Kahler Trems, not too sure about the Wilkinsons).

These guitar's are the best kept secret going I looked at guitar's from $200 to $3000 many different brands and could not find one that felt as good in my hands. Now I have to learn how to play.

I paid $135 and he tossed in a set of strings I think it was a fair price I bought it, before I found this board. Had no idea there was a following for these guitars

On the 2 pickup models both pickups were humbuckers, is yours? Also, only the single coil pickups (which were on the 3 pickup models) had covers. The humbucker did not have covers on any of the models. Of course, this is just based on the ones I have and have seen. As we have learned, almost anything is possible, or someone could have modified it. [ December 15, 2002: Message edited by: Mr. Ovation ]

The ones I've seen with three pickups are usually all single coil and resemble the "strat" look with the pickguard. Yes, like Miles said, the stock humbuckers were Dimarzios which have no covers (personally I like the look not to mention sound of the EMG better than the Dimarzio. I installed one of these puppies into one of my GSs).

I will post a picture what is the format used for the pictures. Thanks for your help
