| I just bought a used Legend and there is no serial number (at least that I can find). I'm concerned that the guitar miggt have been a manufacturer's second (or whatever you call it). Is there any way to tell?
I'm also curious how old the guitar is. It is in very nice, almost new condition and has an OPX preamp.
Any ideas? |

Location: Scotland | The OPX pre was introduced in the mid-90's which is probably as close as you'll get without a serial number. The missing number does not necessarily indicate a second. If it was the label type it may have come loose (unlikely) or been removed. Most of the Ovations I've seen from that time have the serial number stamped into the back of the headstock.

| Thanks. I looked again at the back of the headstock, and, lo and behold, there was the number!
I really appreciate the fact that people on this Board are willing to answer questions from a total newbie like me.
Now that it's evident that I am a total newbie, here's a really dumb question: I bought this guitar for my son as a Christmas present, and I want everything to work right Christmas morning. I'm a little stumped by the battery in the OP-X. (I don't have a manual, so maybe this would be explained there.) Anyway, the slot where the battery goes has these numbers for Duracell or Eveready batteries that I've never heard of before. I'm told that one just needs a regular 9 volt battery, even though the slot doesn't have male and female receptacles that fit with a standard 9 volt battery.
Am I safe to assume this will all work all right on Christams morning? I can't try it out beforehand because the amp I bought is still in the box.
Sorry for the long-winded quetion, and thanks for your help. I've wanted to get an Ovation for over 20 years and now that my son is getting one, you can bet I'll get some playing time too. |

Location: Scotland | It takes any standard 9volt. In my experience with the earlier type of sliding cover battery compartment Duracells seem to be very tight & difficult to remove, but other Alkaline cells are no problem.

Location: Scotland | Factory issue or not, Duracells are very slightly bigger than other 9volts and that makes them difficult to remove from the older style external-access battery holder with the sliding cover, the later pop-up type are no problem.
