Location: Queens, NY | What is the consensus on the new Ovation pre-amps versus the old pre-amps? Are they better, the same, or worse?
I think the on-board tuner is a nice touch, but I kind of miss the old spring loaded battery box. |

Location: Lafayette, Louisiana | Tony my Adamas has the old wood tone and volume knobs. Nice and simple. It sounds great, and gives me all the tone flexability I need. Again I guess I go by the theme that simple is better. Sure works for my Adamas! |

If you have an older preamp such as the single knob or stacked knob type, there's any number of external processors which can provide extra eq or feedback control. I have to say that having got used to the tuner in my SMT I miss it when I'm using other guitars. |

Location: Singapore | Didn't notice much between the 2. The newer pre-amps are wonderful especially the added tuner. Maybe just better design and improvements over the years. My Elite came with the OP-X pre-amp and upon comparison at the shop, didn't sound any different. I have, however, heard older Ovation pre-amps sound just as good. Then again, lots of TLC went into them.
In addition, a lousy PA system or amplifier can ruin a good Ovation sound! I always test my guitars prior to purchase plugged into a good quality amplifier set flat. That way, I can determine the guitars quality easily.
But alas,...sometimes you don't get good amps or systems where you go,...sigh! Trust your ears! |
