I personally believe Ovation has a distinctive sound (which I like), and I was wondering what types of strings bring out the best? I realize that this may be related to personal taste, but I am very interested to find options (I only been playing for a few months). Thanks!

I put a set on my wooden-topped Elite and they sounded great. I then put a set on my Adamas and I didn't like the sound at all. I then ordered some strings from webstrings.com. I picked up a pack of Bluegrass gauge 80/20 bronze and they sounded great. The 80/20 sounded deeper / more mellow. Another string I tried recently where Medium Silk & Steel LaBella's. They were very good for finger picking. So to answer your question, it depends on the guitar and the kind of music/sound you want to make. Bradley

My hands are really hard on strings, and they would go dead in no time. Now I use elixer 12-54, and they are great. My Adamas has great tone for along time. I just can't say enough good things about these strings...Paul Hebert

Kinda like the EXP strings though as my hands get sweaty and they are still lasting well. Oh, and don't forget to wipe the strings after playing each time. It's a good habit that will make any string sound great on an Ovation!

Please, no answers like because: They sound the best when playing light rock. They’re easier to see in the dark. They last longer than kite string. They have fewer calories. They were cheaper than the reprinting all the catalogs to add *(strings not included) A classy answer though, something like Dave’s explanation of where the expression ‘Dead as a Doornail’ came from, would be good. They are easier to play for many people that will be playing the guitars in the stores. Or it might be a federal law, I'm really not certain.

They sent me the wrong 12-strings last week (I wanted 80/20 they sent phosphor bronze). They told me to keep the PB's as a back-up and send me the 80/20's at no cost within a couple of days.
