I was looking at your website, and came across the 1972 1117 Legend you have. You mention it has what looks like a Cedar top. This guitar top looks almost identical to the top on my 1981 1117 Legend. Is it possibly Cedar? I was assured it was Spruce by other members, due to specs. I have had a few different people ask if it was Cedar, and I've always said Spruce.

What do you think?

Norsey;
It probably IS spruce. I get the same thing all the time with my Custom Balladeer (see pics in gallery). People are always asking me if it's cedar.

Thanks Cliff, that's what I figured. It is amazing the different tones wood can take. My 1711 Standard Balladeer looks as orange as a pumpkin! Both are natural spruce.

I am rather sure the guitar I have has a cedar top. I took it along to the Hamer fan club day and a couple of guys were so impressed with it they almost bought. I love the guitar it sounds great but I have way too many guitars to keep them all

Al,
So did Ovation just sprinkle a few cedar faced guitars within various models, or is there a specific serial number or model number to identify cedar faced guitars? Not that it matters, either way my Legend sounds and looks great, and I don't plan on selling EVER! Just curious, and thanks for the reply Al.

About 10 years ago Ovation made cedar faced Legends and Elites. I don't know how they sold or for how long they were made.

Thanks Paul,

Hey, I have a question perhaps you can help me with. Over the holidays, my brother-in-law was over to my house with one of those new fangled digital cameras(O.K.,so life is a little slow up here in Brainerd, but we like it that way :) ). Anyway, he took a few snapshots of my Ovations, and then e-mailed them to me later on.

I have been trying to upload one of the pictures to the Ovation Member Gallery, but have been unsuccessful. I copy and pasted the file # for the picture, but it just won't show. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Norse(by the way,I REALLY like the looks of your Thnderhead. She's a beaut!)man1

Thanks for the comment on the Thunderhead. I'm finding that I pick up tht guitar A LOT just to noodle on. It's a forever guitar for me.

When I uploaded the pic of my electrics, I went to the upload feature by my name, and used the browse button to find the pic on my computer. Then I let the software do the work. I've tried the cut and past method, but somehow always miss something. When it comes to computers, well, hey, I'm still trying to figure out how and where the batch cards go in this new one.

Only those above a certain age will understand that last comment.

Gee Paul, you ARE like "Mannix" aren't you?

Norsey:
It's possible that you're pics don't fit within the size/resolution parameters that Miles established. If you want, e-mail the file to me.
I can resize it (if need be), and send it back to you.

Thanks Cliff!

I'll give her the old college try one more time like Paul suggested. If that don't work, I'll sent you the pics.

Just use the BETA version. There is an upload there. The old version just uploads the file to a place on the server for you to reference it, but is NOT part of the new Gallery, and looking next to your name won't find it.

Click on your name, and at the top is an upload to gallery feature.
