What part of hell do you live in that you would wish to replace this with? Bailey

And thanks also for the wondeful job you do with the Fan Club. Like I have said before, I am so happy to be able to chat with other roundback fans!....Paul Hebert

Within a couple of years after the 1537 Elite came out, they went from a black walnut fingerboard to rosewood. The multi layered end cap disappeared, the body binding went from wood to pearloid. A few years ago, the Legends went from gold to chrome tuners, and over the years, the quality of the top has been downgraded. I'm assuming that this was all done to keep the cost to the consumer down, but my question would be, in keeping that retail price down, has Ovation cheapened their market perception?

Also it once had an ebony fingerboard now it's rosewood. Also it once had a nice wood overlay on the peghead. Now you see where the two piece neck is joined, no overlay at all. Also no more Schaller tunners. And most important for me, no deep bowl. Well you can have a deep bowl, but it is a 3 month wait and it can only be a pure acoustic. No acoustic electric. I really feel Ovation has taken alot of class out of this guitar....Paul Hebert

I don't care what Kaman does as I have been an employee there on and off for 25 yrs. I can survive, and untill they take that last peice of mahogany and give me a layoff I am going to do what I know how to do there. It takes people like "verdict"to really piss people off. I own 2 Ovations that I rescued from the service dept.and I PAID for them. So Ovation fans IF kAMAN has given up on Ovation in America who is going to care? The object of this site is to talk about Ovations and the 1'st attempt to create an acoustic gutiar that is not all wood or wasting a lot of wood to build the bowl. I worked at Kaman Aerospace and I can not even begin to discuss it as it is now located in other states. That is life in America. Company's in America give our jobs away to the commies wvery day. I really enjoy playing my instruments, and the fact that I had a hand in building them is even better. To me verdict you are no better than a driver going thru a red light and hitting a bus load of people.

That other "commentary" was leftover from a cyber-driveby as it were and we'd like to leave it resting. 25 years on and off, is a long time, and sais a lot in itself. There are not many companies that can brag being in existence that long, let alone have employees that have been that loyal overall.

Keep on lecturing us from the builder's point of view, that's what makes this board great. Bailey

Joined: March 2002 Posts: 15686 Location: SoCal | Doug: Bailey's right. When I am critical of Ovation, I'm not saying that they buiild bad guitars. On the contrary, I've played Ovations exclusively for 30 years and believe that the current line of guitars is wonderful. I'm critical because I believe that the company can be more than it is now. It can sell itself better and expand the line of guitars. I want to see Ovation be, in the eyes of the guitar playing publice, what it was in the 1970's. I want to see you the builders of those guitar, get the respect you deserve. I want the world to know that Ovations don't have to be plugged in to sound great. Just little things like that.

My favorite is the bass neck, it looks like a 2x4 when i get it.When it is done I wish I could yank out the frets and boogie with it on my Desktop Gutiarist. SORRY JUST DREAMIN.
