Received a new Viper today. The three pieces that form the back of the guitar were never glued together at the factory. Has anyone else seen production problems with the off-shore Ovations?

That’s how companies get reputations but give them a chance to make it right.
First contact the seller and tell them if they’re going to sell guitars like this they should say in their ads ‘SOME ASSEMBLE REQUIRED’ and throw in a bottle of glue with a few rubber bands. Then email Ovation an FYI letting them know the problem and what the seller is going to do to correct it. I think they would be interested in making sure this gets resolved to your satisfaction. In the meantime if it makes you feel better you can post a picture of it on the OFC gallery page. Caption it ‘my new Viper. Some assemble required’

I'd take it (or ship it) back to where you bought it. If the guitar is still within the return period, they should replace it or give you a refund. I have a Korean made Celebrity CC01 and Celebrity Deluxe CS247, and to me the workmanship is very good.

When I got the CS247, there was a slight problem with the bridge. I showed it to a guitar tech, and he said I should return it. I shipped it back to Music123.com (contacted them first, described problem, got RMA #, etc.), and they shipped me another one, which was fine. They were pretty cool about it.

The guitar is on the way back to the seller. They e-mailed me a pre-paid return shipping label, which was cool, but I'm still disappointed.

You should be dissapointed. Stuff like that really brings the company down. Now ask yourself this, would you recommend an Ovation to a friend?

Eight of my 27 guitars are Ovations, so yes, but I think I'd recommend a "hands on" first.

One of the reasons that Korean guitars are cheaper than US guitars is thier quality control is far less stringent. This should never have left the factory, but equally the vendor should have checked it & rejected it.

I never knew the back of Vipers were in three pieces. I'd love to see a picture if you took one.

I re-packed it before I thought to take a picture. The center piece is about 8 inches wide. BTW it sounded TERRIBLE.
