Joined: January 2003 Posts: 2 Location: Hendersonville, NC | Help! I bought an ultra in Sacramento (brand new) in Feb of 92 and I'm just now needing a new saddle, anyway the serial number is 247697, model #1528-5M, I can't find the model# on any ovation website (the finish is a greyish birds-eye maple) with a black lacquer neck. the ovation website says it was built in 1982!!! that's impossible! I still have the bill of sale. I've never seen a finish like it anywhere. Someone help me figure this out! Maybe I can send one of you experts a photo.

Your Ultra was no doubt built in Korea (check on the label inside the bowl). Ovation put some very interesting veneers on the tops of the Ultras, I've seen a few that are similar to yours. They can be very pretty. Replacing the saddle should be easy. Let the board know what electronics package is in the guitar and someone will be able to zero in on what you need to do.

Send me a photo if you wish and I will see what I can tell you. If you want to see what I am working on right now, go to: http://www.overacker.com/ovationrestorations.htm I'll help you if I can. There is no reason to find ways to criticize contributors, if you want to express disgust, look to Congress and the bureaucracy. You are on one side of the equation and he may be another, but if you were faced with living or dying I'm sure he would help you live, until you've faced that dying moment don't judge anyone.

I would be the first to agree with you that Paul has been a font of useful information and insight and is always willing to help and does so expeditiously. Paul was also a major benefactor in a philanthropic project that he, I and some other members were involved in. He is truly a major credit to this Board. In conversations I've had with Paul I've discovered that he and I share somewhat of a similar "twisted" sense of humor. My statement was intended as a "joke" (and a joke directed at the East Village - not Paul). He obviously got it. You obviously didn't. But that's okay. I apologize for any seemingly intended dispatch of ill will.

He wears fairly ugly Hawaiian shirts (if you are going to wear a Hawaiian shirt make certain that they are truly ugly like mine), he makes me feel bad as a guitar player (us mortals should not be around that good a player), and he has crappy taste in friends (hey, in California, he was hanging around with a low class of person -- just ask my neighbors!). Somehow in re-reading this post it seems to come across with a different than intended meaning. I'm gonna have to think about this over my morning beer.

I have found myself agreeing with you frequently so I will apologize if I seemed to lecture. I have been a little harsh since I got kicked in the ass by a pickup and forced to face my aged condition, but I am recovering well and hope to enter a marathon soon. I had the chutspah to ask the doctor if I would be able to play the fiddle after my accident, he said "I don't see why not" I said "Great, I sure couldn't play it before". Please don't send me the retribution I deserve. Bailey
