Location: Zion, Illinois | I had to work late, just got home an hour ago to find my new Ovation waiting. I unpacked it, and I have to say the seller did a fantastic job of packing, pulled it out and it look very good, just as the seller had described.
I went upstairs, got my tuner and tuned the guitar. I fingered a D chord and plucked string by string. When I got to the A string I smiled. Like my Custom Legend, this A string made the bowl shake. I could feel the vibration all the way to my toes. Nice.
The problem is that when I got to the B string, it was a little flat!
No problem I thought. I pulled out the tuner again, plucked B, and it rang true. It was a B. But when I went down the neck to the third fret and played a D note on the B string. It was flat. I then tried playing an A on the B string, 5th fret. It was even worse!
Next I tried the 12th fret harmonics. All the other notes the harmonics where the same note as the open string.
BUT I COULDN'T GET A HARMONIC ON THE 12Th FRET ON THE B STRING.
I finally got the harmonic on the 13th fret for the B string.
I've never seen this problem before. I don't see any signs of damage. The bridge doen't look like it has been re-glued or anything. Everything about this guitar looks like it has been well kept.
Any ideas????

Location: Zion, Illinois | Darn it all, I may have figured something out. The seller did say that the stereo plug had been removed (and showed a picture of the hole where the stereo plug had been) and also said that there wasn't a volumn control.
I'm thinking someone swapped out the electronics with another Ovation. I mostly thinking about the pickup/saddle. Could the B string be too far back causing it to be flat???
Again I say, HELP :eek: :eek:

Location: SoCal | I don't remember which string I did this with, B, G, or E, but when I had my Classical I had the same problem with one of the strings. I popped off the top of the bridge on that string and put it back on backwards. Solved the problem.
If it's going out up the neck, then the string length is wrong from the nut to the bridge.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. It's amazing how often I am. |

Location: San Bernardino, California | The lower the pitch the longer the string length (farther from nut). The higher the pitch the shorter the string length (closer to the nut). Just move in the opposite direction to correct the problem. If it's really bad use something as a temporary bridge for that string (just to get you in the ballpark) before making permenent changes. |

The covers seem to be 1 piece. Do I split them apart?
I just tried replacing the covers with a new one. No luck
It is a shame because this really is a nice guitar. There must be some way to fix this problem.
New topic. Is a 1613 worth fixing???? :rolleyes:

Location: San Bernardino, California | If each saddle is seperate try rotating the one for the B 180 degrees. I've also seen this type of problem because of a non-uniform string (one part thicker than another (makes it vibrate wierd)). |

Thanks. I'll give it a try tomorrow. I will also pick up a new set of strings.
I hope I can fix this guitar, it really seems to be very high quality.

THAT DID IT.
I changed the existing B string with an extra one and it is fine now.
