Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | That is an Ultra GS. The history of this guitar was just posted in another thread. What is the configuration? How many pickups? Type of bridge, color, etc? They came in many configutations. |

Location: Tennessee | Sorry Miles, but I believe the Ultra 1512 is a non-cutaway, deep bowl acoustic/electric, probably made in Korea (but check the label inside, might be USA). Most likely a laminate top, but a sturdy, dependable instrument nonetheless with pretty decent sound for the money. Believe they were only made for a short time in the mid 80s. Price? Check eBay for what the street is paying, but somewhere around $200 in good shape. |

Yer right. Korean made, laminate top, but a good, sturdy guitar for the money. |

No didn't get the preamp "bug" fixed yet.
I did use it for my Valentine's Day solo gig though (along with the duo gig the following night). I found a "sweet spot" on the pot at about 75% volume where it doesn't "freak" and I control the volume at the PA. I can't tell you how great it is to have a 12 for certain songs at a gig. I can't wait 'till I'm able to get an Adamas 12.
Rumor has it that there's a new Ovation dealer down in South Jersey. I'll have to contact him about procuring a new pot from Customer Service (but I've also heard innuendo that his business practices are somewhat "questionable"). |

Location: SoCal | I know you've already got new strings on it, but Elixar lights for 12 strings are wonderful. They stay in tune well, and sound good for about three times as long as other strings.
While to my ear, an Adamas 12 string (original) is the ultimate 12, there are a lot of good 12's out there. Just before Big Blue came along I was going to get a Seagull 12 string. Wonderful guitar!
As to that New Jersey Ovation dealer, if you can get past the perversion of his mind (which actually, plays right into mine), he's as honest as the day is long (that is, the days in Antarctica in the middle of winter!). Ha! I'd do business with Al over almost anybody I know. Except he won't quote me a price on the carpet. |
