Girl From Ipanema. Moon River. Over The Rainbow. Harbor Lights. You can "jazz" almost anything. I do a jazz version of "Crazy" that people seem to like. As a matter of fact, Willie wrote a lot of jazz. "All of Me" comes to mind. And with Christmas coming...you can jazz almost any Christmas song. Fron, well, "The Christmas Song" AKA Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire, to White Christmas, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, even Silent Night. My favorite is, believe it or not, Santa Clause is Coming to Town. I always hated that song, so one day I decided to try to make it pretty. I believe it is my very best arrangement of all the songs I have ever arranged. | ||

So the challenge is to find tunes with some recognition factor, not just standard status.... The Vince Guaraldi Peanuts idea seems very much on track here: a Bill-Evans style bop gem that everyone knows and loves.... | ||
