To start things off, I have been fortunate enough in life that it looks like I'll be headed towards the Hawaiian islands to live for an unspecified amount of time and I intend to take an acoustic guitar with me. I'm a musical composition major with my main instrument being bass guitar, but considering that I intend to be without an electrical supply for extended periods of time, I've decided to take up acoustic guitar in which to expand my horizons while simultaneously being able to compose while on the move. I've always been partial to Ovations for sound, feel, build, and looks, and now that I'm in the market for an acoustic, it seems like a wonderful time to pick one up. ;) I'm looking to keep my budget under 1k, preferably used. My musical taste extends across everything, but I do tend to favorite the blues from time to time. So if you would be so kind as to help me out, what would you suggest as my first Ovation?

Aka, living in a tent/shack/teepee.Originally posted by ProfessorBB: Yeah, but they don't like extension power cords across the beach! :p but I always thought they had electricity on the Islands. My laptop isn't exactly up to the snuff, plus I usually just write down my compositions. Thank you guys so much for the quick responses though! Keep throwing them at me! :D

Stay away from Applause. Check here, eBay and Craigslist for what's out there. Side holes or center holes are personal preference. Just make sure you get US-made with a spruce top.

(I think I just channeled Moody) One other thing to consider is if you're playing blues, are you playing up the neck? You might want to stick with a cutaway if so. Quit a bit of my youth was spent in your neck of the woods. We used to go skim boarding down there every weeked (I grew up in the Bay Area). Welcome to the club.

As a relative Ovation novice, I bow to the superior advice above, but generally US made, deep bowl solid top is good advice. But won't this be a relatively harsh environment for a guitar?
