So a few months ago I picked up a nice looking Elite 6768 on Ebay. It had a few minor issues, which I had my local guitar tech resolve, along with a good setup. I got the guitar back and it played fine, but it seemed to lack gusto. Light strings, and very low action; maybe too low I thought, but no buzzes. So I put on a set of Martin Lt/Mediums strings. Better, but still needed more, and the extra tension didn't raise the action at all.

A couple of days ago, I put on Medium strings, EJ17's. Bam! To my amazement, still no change in the action, but a bit more tension, good though.

After the strings settled in, and the initial brightness was gone, the guitar just took off, like saying yes! That's what I needed mediums.

Yes, quiet night here in Austin.

12's or 13's on my adamas's sound great!
While were on the topic, and not to change the duirection of this thread, but I am trying to find some single strings for the barritone as I want to run a set over one space and buy a large single bass string so I can get 5 wound strings on the Baritone. What company makes the biggest long neck single string?? I have looked in Juststings.com but there are so many companies,
Thanks. I want to see just how much I can get out of this thing tuned to a B

John Pearse make phosphor bronze singles up to 0.080, I'm pretty sure D'Addario do too.

Yep found it the John Pearse singles for Baritone go to up 72 and even 76. That is huge! That should make a great booming bass string.

Thanks

Now y'all got me thinking... (strange, huh? )

I am trying to decide if my Orange Flame T would survive EJ17's...

Anyone one put any of them big steel cables on a T?

[I know that they worked well on my 1718, but that thing was more heavily built...]

13-56 is not much for most Ovations. Just keep a watch on the neck and is if starts creeping up just give it a little tweek to compensate. 13's can sound great on some guitars, I know my adamas's love the extra tension and respond well.
13's are more work on the fingers though. Give em a try.
