Location: Fort Worth, Texas | My family spent the weekend at the Kerrville Folk Festival. My wife had been down all week attending a teacher's workshop, myself and the kids went down Thursday and came back Sunday - this was the last three days of the 18 day run of the festival.
I took my new Legend and it got a couple of great compliments - I was a little leary of taking it as we camp in the camnpgrounds and the weather can be thunderstorms and/or 95+ sun beating down during the afternoons. Well, the Legend stood up to it all as we had a raging thunderstorm Thursday night - several campers tents and/or canopies blew over, including our neighbors canopy which took out our other neighbors canopy. Guitar was safe in it's case in our tent. Friday day the temperature got to around 92, and that night there was heavy, heavy dew. Started getting real muggy. We made it through the rest of the weekend with no rain, allthough a storm kicked up close by on Sunday morning - wind whipped up, but no rain. The Legend performed wonderfully at Camp Duct Tape song circles.
Saw a few other Ovation's being played, but did not get a chance to talk to the owners.
One of the compliments I got was what a great sound the Legend has - it was after I played some travis picking through a whole song (Wilson) while Papa Duct Tape played rhythym and sang on his Taylor and David Patrick Dunne played some lead fills on his Takamine and Beth played some harmonica solos.
The Kerrville Folk Festival is a great time and it all revolves around music - main stage performers like Trout Fishing in America, Jimmy La Fave, Peter Rowan, etc. each weekend and the campgrounds where a regular player like me can join in.
The only bad thing was I didn't get to spend enough time this year!

Location: puerto vallarta, mexico | i've been to kerville a few times. still got a bill's autoparts hat from there. i went in looking for something for my ford diesel pu, and bill said "hain't got buddy, but chyall take one a my hat's anyway" that sums up kervill and hill country hospitality. i do remember the weather and an occasional twister too. watched one form right over head. 7 hit around n of austin that day. a couple of yeard later that cat 6 hit 15 miles n of my ranch and sucked a whole gone right down to the cement slabs. do you remember that one? n of georgetown on the way to kileen? town began with a j i think but ended with a twister. |

Paul, we missed Ponty Bone and the Squeeze Tones (I've seen them before), nor did I catch any of the other performers you mention. I've seen the the Lounge Lizards a handfull of times over the years - they are a blast!
The Saturday I was there we spent the whole evening in the campgrounds (instead of attending the evenings performances at the main amphitheater, Jimmy La Fave was the closer, seen him several times), as our Kerrfriends of Camp Duct Tape hosted there daughters wedding on Chapel Hill and threw a great reception right in the campgrounds, good Texas Bar-B-Q from Earl's in Kerrville. They brought in a little flat-bed trailer that would hold about 5 players - several folks got up and played, had a belly dancer perform, I sat in on percussion (for our 5th anniversary my wife got me a cool bamboo shaker/guiro, you know the ribbed percussion instrument you "scrape" with a stick, allthough this one has a big animal tooth to scrape it with) with a couple of guitar players and another friend who brought his snare drum (used brushes!) - after several Dos Equis out of the keg they had, I was actually keeping up!!
Next year I'll get more time off for going to the KFF, we're saving vacation time to go on an Alaska cruise in August.
