Out of all the 'O's and 'A's I saw and fondled this past weekend, I was totally captivated by Keith's (War Eagle) 1680. The walnut, ebony and gold combination just has that understated eloquence found on few carbon tops. I thought it actually sounded a touch better than a couple of the UTEs. If I ever get one, I'd like to locate a black bridge and nut. The wood top that blew me away was Brad's (BluesSailor) FD14. I've always loved the pics of it, but it sounds just as sweet as it looks. Awesome wood top! Anyone else...?

I feel lucky having attended a few of these now & between that & the excellent advice & salesmanship found here I've pretty much got my collection set (for now). I still really like the sound of the UTE, but I can't really justify getting one right now. Maybe somewhere down the road a ways. There are 2 that I'm jonesin' for: one I've wanted since January of last year - Beal's 2080D with the MANLY neck. The other one is a new one on me as of the Smokies Jam, and that's Beal's blue longneck Adamas (was that a 1681?). Fortunately for my budget, there's no chance Beal's gonna part with either of those.

The long list is of course a different story. I think that Trader Jim has it right - let as many as you can pass through your hands - try 'em all! If I ever make it to the shop again, I've got the makings of a Preacher Deluxe 12 string and a Deacon. Time is NOT on my side though...

The 2080D 12 is a close 2nd! The 2080's are really cool guitars but making them a longneck turns them into monsters!

They look and play like guitars, but have so much bottom end that they are truly unique instruments. Add a 72 E string like Beal's, tuned to as low as you want, and you end up with a bass drum with sustain. They're very unique instruments. Everybody should have an opportunity to try one if possible.

Plays so smooth also. The pic doesn't do it justice. We need Damon to pull out that red blanket and capture the sweetness. Serge, I was forewarned about the high octane GAS generated at the jams and was somewhat prepared. But I never thought I'd be caught off guard this bad! Yepper, Beal's longneck was a surprise also. I had never handled one before. Mike, that was a sweet adoption! Since your short list is completed (riiight!), did the jam alter your long list?

I need an electric and I love my Viper and my Deacon. I can't imagine needing more, but for my church playing, a VXT might even be the perfect thing. It would take more than the Deke is worth to make me sell it, and I don't ever want to be without a Viper, even if it's a beater. So here's my priority list: 1) Get an Adamas cutaway, a 1581 would be perfect in blue, red or beige. 2) Deal the T and get a woodgrained top with a nice burst, again with a cutaway. I just don't love the plugged in sound of that guitar. After that I can just become Trader Jas for fun, keeping the main stable intact. I figure with these two items, I'm set for life. So if it takes a long time to accomplish, I'm good with that.

As stated by Moody and Cliff - I've been to the factory tour, several jams, and Al's house a couple of times. My long list has been influenced greatly by those visits and hasn't changed much at all.
