Being green behind the ears with guitars and amps; this may be a dumb question, but "Is there a possibility of an amp sending current back to the guitar, maybe because of an electric surge?

If so, is there a "go-between" between the amp and the guitar? This "go-between" should absorb power surges, in the meantime filtering the sound from the guitar, to give it better clarity?

I've been playing my tele copy for almost 20 years now and i've never had an issue like that. And I've had my ovation for at least 10. Though I'm a bit of luddite. It may be with today's computers you might need some sort of inbetween thingy, but for straight playing, I just plug it in and the sound is the sound. If you get too much of a buzz, well that's not because there's a missing thingy. You have to check your electronics. With my tele there always is a little faint hum, and with my ovation never. That's just the way they are.

As long as the equpment is factory spec (i.e hasn't been modified by someone with a degree in stupidity & a death-wish) this is pretty much impossible. There have been several deaths in the UK due to musicians grounding via their equipment. In every case it was down to modified/badly maintained gear and/or faulty mains supply. Due to stringent safety standards and the use of residual current circuit breakers it's pretty hard to get yourself killed playing guitar these days (unless of course you're crap and the audience bottles you off stage)

I've never had that happen, but then I think most of my audiences are amused by the novelty of a guitar player wearing a shoulder holster.

I hate to say it, but some of today's acts might be improved by a dose of 110V.

I think a lot of them are already getting their 110 jolt from the looks of it.

Nils

Hey! "110 JOLT" would be a good name for one of those bands!

Actually, quality of most of today's popmusic was the reason to increase the current to 240V in Europe.

Thanks, guys. Now, that explains why I'm not plugged in when playing the guitar. No, not fear of an electrical zap. More of the crowd booing me off stage, etc.. But I think that will not happen, thanks to my E.S.; - it "sings" so wonderfully, no matter how it's played.
