I have a buddy from another forum who builds CBGs for fun. He was just recently interviewed by Low Fi St Louis.

Fun stuff. Not for the serious at heart.

This guy cracks me up. He is obviously doing really well with his product. Neatness counts. Love it.

Mark's a fun guy, I actually have one of his CDs. He has an act with just him and a drummer. Hardcore style stuff.

I think they're cool and sound great for some styles. But if you want something bigger try this

I made one and it's pretty fun. But the instructions said to use a piece of wood about 3 feet long, so I figured bigger is better and added an inch or two. If I try to tune it to open G it pops strings. So I guess I'll play it in open F... open F?

I do like the way my F holes came out though.

It's a super shallow. I outta add a pickup... and strap buttons as it's impossible to hold and play... Stephen may be right.

But hey - the F holes!

I like mine better. The strings are cheaper.

Is that a deep or mid-bowl, Jim?

Actually I still have it! It was a school project for my son that went way overboard by the time I was done, and he refuses to part with it.

If you were at Amelia Mike and saw Ben Prestage play you would be BLOWN A FREEKING WAY by cigar box.

There's a write up somewhere about one of his CBGs. Completely home made with two broom handles hose-clamped together for a neck. One broom handle has a single bass string on it and the other a single regular electric string. The pickups are hand made by winding copper onto wooden thread spools. The movable nut is actually a Sharpie pen and he glued some solidbody "horns" onto the ceegar box so it would sit right on his knee. And he just wails on the damn thing! Al and I saw him play a 90 minute set at Amelia and he was pounding shots between every song, sometimes while still keeping up the beat on the foot drum set. Just freaking amazing. That CBG in the 2nd video is actually a danelectro neck fixed to a CB. Wild stuff.

There's a guy who lives near here that makes them too. I reckon they sound great for the first 10 minutes or so.....
