Hello Everyone,

I just bought my first Ovation 12 string, Glen Campbell, acoustic/electric guitar. It sure is pretty. I also own a 1953 Gibson six string f-hole. It's a beauty too.

I'm anxious to know what year my Ovation was built. I do have serial number and model number. Is there a place I can go to find out?

Ah, my first post with my new friends.

Thank you. My serial number is a five digit, so it says my guitar was built between Jan 1970 - May 1972. How do I find out what it's worth?

It's worth at least as much as you paid? Are you looking to sell it already?

No, no. Just thinking about insurance and testing whether I got a good deal. I will probably never sell it.

I paid $412.50. Had to negotiate hard.

Insurance... $3000 or more.
It cannot be replaced.
But they can build you one.... Maybe.

Thanks Arthur.

I'm doing the research on it and I'm not finding clear answers.

For example; the model # is 1118-4 (the 4 stands for a Natural finish) and the the serial # is 13884, which is a five digit number therefore it's supposed to have been built somewhere between Jan 1970 and May of 1972. I've had to convert the model number to 1618 because it is electric also. All the 1118's are not electric in the 12 string version. It seems that all the 1618's were built in 1978.

I'll get it figured out but thanks for your feedback.

Someone (possibly the factory) may have added the electronics later to a 1118, so the model number and serial number could be correct.
