My daughter Lydia (first grader) is home too, because of teacher conferences. So, I grab the Koala and start working on my arrangement of Somewhere Over The Rainbow. Then Lydia comes in and decides to play "He loves me, he loves me not" with a bunch of flowers. The result is just one of those magic moments. Sorry, but you'll have to listen past the clumsy guitar playing to get to the one minute mark when Lydia comes in: Somewhere Over The Rainbow

As a proud papa myself, I know moments like those are matchless in their innocence and wonder. I find myself asking "Where did that marvelous little soul come from?" every time. Truly a timeless recording! :D

But Jeff.....see sounds way older than a first grader....and WHAT pray tell is a first grader doing with "He Loves me, He loves me not"???? :D

One of their favorites was '16 Tons' and they each were responsible for one verse they had to sing themselves. There were many nights when the wife had to drag me out of there.

My chops just aren't there. My version still has a few spots I want to polish up, but in general I'm starting to get happy with it. Its not nearly as sophisticated as the TE version, but at least I can play it! :-)

Then post it again, but played slowly, zoomed in on your left hand. I want to learn it EXACTLY how you play it. I prefer it to the TE version, to be honest. Wonderful.

I hope my kids have fond memories of our music together when they're older. Although it won't be of my early morning alarm clock playing. When they have to get up in the morning and get ready for school and my wife and I have run out nice ways to ask them, I grab an old guitar and make sure it's way out of tune and then I go in to their respective bedrooms and just bang the hell out of it above their heads. Amazing how quick they can move then.
