1. remove strings
2. stick a bit of wood over the frets where the buzz occurs
3. tap the wood gently with a hammer

Be sure to support the neck under the area.

If a fret has popped loose (unusual with Ovations as the frets are glued in) that rather brutal technique might work. But before I'd go whacking my guitar with a hammer I'd go down a more likely route. If the buzz is at the first few frets it's because the frets are worn in the "cowboy" positions or the neck is too straight. Check the neck relief and adjust the truss rod. If the frets are worn you need to have them dressed if the wear isn't to bad, or re-fretted in the grooves are too deep to dress out. If the buzz is in the higher positions a fret-dress is better than trying to hammer a high fret back into place. Or it could be that the geometry of the guitar is changing with climate and/or age, and a shim at the bridge will cure it.

Or do as I am this week and send it in to the mothership to be sure it's done right.

The PF-22 is making a quick trip home to mom.

A friend of mine had a lose fret. He tamped it down with a hammer. It worked, but he neglected to remove the strings, and left a couple of nice grooves in the fret. So then he had to bring to someone to have the fret replaced. These musicians are a funny lot.

What Paul said, as usual. The neck could be bowed or warped, causing the buzz, depending on where it is buzzing. If it started after a change in the weather this is very likely and a truss rod tweak may be in order.
My 87C has a high fret and tapping it down worked for awhile, but once it's loose it's hard to keep it down there. If you take a straight edge and find only one high fret, that might be the situation. If the action is set really low and the buzz occurs when you strum hard, adding a shim is probably the solution. I guess I should have started with locating the fret where the buzz occurs.

What Temp said. Also, change the strings. Sometimes the tension on a string isn't what it should be. Banging on the frets would be the last thing I'd do.....

On my flame T, when I got it I had a fret buzz at the 14 or 15 fret...
After a bunch of advice that included hammers, rags, wood blocks and vise-grips, I discovered that I could push the offending fret down with my thumb and determined pressure.
I have not had any problem with it since then either.

Try that before you smack it with a hammer or ship it to Connecticut...

[But that's Why I have a Hammer! :D ]

Season is changing. Could be changes in the humidity, or lack of it. Let's see, if we're going from wet to dry, you'd be going from dry to wet? Or does it not matter where you be?

I noticed that too ...

I be in the northeast and this week the heat is on and as such the humidity is down. I've turned on the house humidifier and installed my in case hygrometers and humidifiers.

For the rest of us who have heating season ... check your humidity.
