It has some scratches and dings, needs a neck adjustment and the volume needs to be fixed, but otherwise it's all mint and really sounds great (everything else works sound wise). Was this a good deal? What do these go for these days? I'll probably end up keeping it. Thanks, JJ

It's merde, so you better send it to me for disposal (see, he's thinking.......nibble at the hook.......take a bite........aw, SHUCKS....he spit it out....Damn!!) Actually, you have made the best deal I've heard in quite some time. There's several members here that would commit a few antisocial acts to get their mitts on a minty Breadwinner; I'm at the head of the line, Guys- hey, quit shovin'!!

I had no idea it has an ebony fretboard - that's really cool. And after reading about the active pickups and controls and trying them out, I think this is a special guitar to keep. It seems to be an under appreciated guitar (except for all the Ovation fans of course) considering the thought and quality that went into it. This seems like a really fun web site too. Count me in! The color is a big help, and also if the neck plate and access cover are engraved or not. Are the saddles brass or nylon? Actually you can look up the serial number in the reference section to ballpark the year produced. I agree, although not my favorite Ovation, it's one of my favorites. In a time when the world was a sea of Les-Strato-Tele-tars, it was a unique sound that fit right in, with technology way ahead of it's time.

I had to laugh though, at the statement that it had some scratches and dings, needs a neck adjustment, needs the volume fixed, but otherwise it's mint. My van has 65k miles, needs tires, has some key scratches on the side and some coffee stains on the carpet, but I guess otherwise it's mint. I just think we sometimes get a bit too enthusiastic. Wishing it to be true doesn't make it so. That said, getting a fixer-upper Bwinner for 100.00 with maybe $85 worth of work to be done is a GREAT deal - hope you enjoy it.

Joined: August 2003 Posts: 10 Location: Minneapolis | Hi Again, Funny thing is that the last receipt was in the guitar case. (I'm glad the person putting on the garage sale didn't find it!) It was bought in Dec. 1980 for $429, but then references the first receipt with a date of purchase April 10th, 1974. The serial number is E-2174. It has all engraved metal parts on the back, has nylon saddles and is the light tan texured color with the tortoise shell type pick guard. Is this an early model? Anyone have any cool info regarding this guitar? Thanks Again, JJ

I guess I should have been a litle clearer on the back parts. Are they "engraved" (basically flat with etched writing) or "embossed" or "stamped" (3-D with Ovation guitar logo and such). The more plain covers were earlier, adn I'm not really sure it means much other than signifying the very first batches. As it is a tan one, if it's in good shape, it's a little more rare. Not sure if the production numbers were different, maybe Sam knows, but it just seems they don't show up often.

The lettering and logos on these are raised to the height of where the screws are positioned - the 3D effect I guess. They look pretty cool that's for sure. Thanks, JJ
