Location: SoCal | While in Hollywood a few days back I (and Paul Templeman who's been out here for a few days) found and played an Adamas that was built for the export market. I don't remember the model number, but Al has several that are similar for sale at his website

The model that was the closest was the W587t-7 that Al has listed.
The guitar I played was a few years old (late 90's) as it had the older style preamp. But when we picked it up to play it, we were thrilled to hear the sound coming out of it. The sales guy asked if we wanted to plug it in. Hell no. We wanted to hear the acoustic sound which was wonderful. It had a big bright sound that was top notch. And the guitar was beautiful to look at. I've never been a big fan of the current crop of Adamii (great guitars but they don't ring my chimes asthetically), but this guitar was gorgeous to look at, with the snail shell inlays on the neck and the beautiful woven top and the reverse sunburst. It was wonderful. And for $1500 it was a bargin.
I had to go home and pull out my 1537 Elite to reassure myself that I wasn't suffering for not buying it. It also didn't hurt that my wife's mantra kept coming back to me ..... "new carpet... new carpet....." |

Location: 6 String Ranch | That reminds me of the story about the guy who was in a very bad accident and lost his wedding tackle but survived the accident. In the hospital with his wife by his side the doctor explained he was lucky to be alive and there was something they could do to help him with his new problem. He said he could he could stitch things back up but there would be nothing there but he would be able to function for the elimination of water by sitting. He further said there was a new procedure and they could graft on a new "member" for him, any size he wanted, and he'd be fully functional again. Since this was an experimental deal he'd have to pay, insurance wouldn't cover it and the price was $30,000. Both the man and his wife were excited and asked the doc for a few moments in private. When the doctor returned he said have you made a decision? The wife was smiling and the guy said "Yes, she's going to get a new kitchen instead" |

those textured top Adamas guitars are fantastic. They sound really great and imho outshine the smt and the cvt.
They do not have the style of the Adamas 1 but have the sound. |

They have their own style which I think is better than the SMT's and CVT's. I was blown away. If I ever had to replace my 1537, or won the lottery, you'd sell a few of those to me. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Dumb question, but why are the textured tops only for the export market (unless special ordered). Seems like everyone who has heard them says they are superior to the SMT and CVT. So why isn't the best stuff standardly available here in Ovation's own back yard? Dave |

You can order a guitar with a textured top but they are more money.
Essentially the market for these guitars has been Europe and Asia, only the True Adamians know about the textured top. |

Location: Scotland | Paul & I have trawled a lot of SoCal guitar stores over the last few days and tried a ton of guitars, including Martin, Taylor, Goodall, Kiso Klein, C Fox, Collings, Everett & God knows what else. The stand-outs for me were the Goodalls, and an old maple-bodied jumbo Larrivee. The one that topped them all was that woven Adamas. Interstingly, all the Ovations they had in were old stock (Tru-balance pickups & Optima pres)
Anyone looking for a Bargain? Freedom Guitars on Sunset Blvd have a 83 collectors. It has a nasty finish crack all the way down the treble side but doesn't seem serious. Apart from that it's in good shape. They were asking less than $270. |

Location: Scotland | Bailey, we went down to San Diego for the Street Scene music festival. It was a three day event, but there were a couple of bands on the Sunday I really wanted to see (Wilco & the Subdudes) as well as those two we saw Nickle Creek, Macy Gray, REM & the Sex Pistols. The Pistols were hilarious, it was like a "Saturday Night Live" sketch. Lydon was embarrasing. We spent Monday on San Diego Old Town, which was great. We're flying home today, Mr & mrs Moody have been perfect hosts, in fact I have no idea how he manages to stay married to such a classy lady. |
