| I own a Celebrity CC01-Mahogany. The previous owner told me, after I bought it, that I got a great deal because the guitar was one of the few solid top versions of this guitar. Not that it really matters, but how do you tell? The edge of the soundhole is finished and painted, so you can't see any laminations, if they exist. The Ovation web site doesn't state that the tops are solid, so I assume they are laminate. Any ideas? Thanks. |

Location: New York, NY | I too own a CC01-M and to my knowledge, they've always been laminates. Currently all Celebrity and Celebrity Deluxe models are laminates. They used to make a CS247-4S, which was a solid top, but that was a few years ago.
The CC01's are kind of neglected because they're low end, deep bowl, acoustic only models, but I think they're nice guitars for the money. |

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | I bought a new Celebrity CC01 natural (spruce) top a week ago---I didn't know the top was laminate, and frankly, I don't care. It sounds great, and it has more than fulfilled my expectations for a guitar in its price range.
Wish there was enough market for Ovation to offer a deep-bowl, no electronics, no cutaway, guitar like this in the Balladeer range....I'd buy one!!!! :) |

I could see getting rid of the cutaway but, to me, the Ovation electronics are one of their best features. If it resulted in a top notch acoustic at a GOOD price, that might justify it. As for the laminate top, if it sounds good it is fine, it will last forever and take anything you want to throw at it, (speaking figuratively). As I have constantly said, we all cannot afford collector's models, so having a good sounding Ovation and still being able to afford some tires for the hot rod has some appeal to someone who has raised 4 kids (me).

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | Hi Bailey,
Sorry for the time to reply...was out of town...I have nothing against electronics, just that I don't need them(I'm definitely NOT a pro)...and I don't want to pay for them, plus it's another thing to go wrong and have to be fixed.
I'd like to see the OPTION....maybe a mid-bowl Balladeer with and without, with a $50 to $75 price difference....I'd live with the cutaway.
I personally am not fond of the non-amplified sound of the shallow-bowl Ovations....doesn't have that Ovation "sound" I like....I turned down two nicer used shallow-bowl Celebrities to get my CC01, it sounded soooooo much better.
Actually, the shallow-bowl Celebrities didn't sound much better than my Epiphone Casino hollow-body not plugged-in to an amp..... |
