I seen these on E-bay (did not bid) but, was wondering from those that have either purchased one or someone from the factory what is usually done. I know any thing but why do they usualy come back?

The only thing that really is a concern to me (other than price) is a 5 year warranty instead of life time. Saving a few hundred dollars would be very nice, but would not want a problem down the road.

This is still a way off in the future for me, but I did try a W597 (I think) last weekend and the rich tone at feel on the neck was very nice. What is the big difference between the last electronic package and the OP50?

Thanks
Edward

I saw the auction ended, or the item was relisted.

Anyway, there are a lot of people on this board who sent their guitars back to the factory for repairs. AFAIK you get it back as good as or even better than new.

The difference between the old and new electronics is not so big. Try a search with the words Optima and OP-50. I think it's mainly the shape of the op-50 which makes it easy replaceable with other preamps of the op-x series preamps (kidney shaped). The optima preamp has more or less the same specs but a different shape (rectangular).

I have a 1597-4G which looks the same as this one, with the optima preamp and a thinline pickup, without warranty and it really does not bother me to have no warranty. The guitar is built like a tank and sounds great to my ears, though many have the opinion that the 597 and woven top adamases sound even better.

Anyway, the really big repairs (neck resets, refretting, broken necks etc.) are not covered by the warranty afaik so why bother.

good luck,

martin

First I am rather positive the warranty is 3 years not 5

Many of the guitars that are reconditioned may have a minor finish flaw or while they sat in the store or warehouse needed a setup.

Anything that has a major structural flaw rarely makes it out the doors.

Oklahoma Vintage guitar sells a lot of these on ebay. I called them and asked because they were listed as FRG guitars. They told me the one's they had were only "electronic" reconditions. They would not sell any the had structural problems. They also told me they had a 5 year warranty because they are sent back. They said that these guitar are gone through even more thorough than the brand new life-time warranty guitars! If they are so gone-through and reassured. Why shorten the warranty. Can one of the factory guys straighten this out?
