I brought my guitar to a luthier to have it properly set up and he told me to come have a look. While he was oiling the ebony fretboard he noticed three hairline cracks in the fingerboard running with the grain. one of them is about 10 frets long (!). He supposed they appeared because the fretboard dried out during storage.

They are very narrow and barely visible and he said he would glue them together.

1. Are these cracks something to worry about
2. Will this repair last even if it's refretted at some point in time?

Thnx

Martin

Not to worry, Grrroovedude. Fretboard cracks are not too rare in guitars that have been subjected to low humidity levels. your luthier should be able to repair these so they are all but invisible. Long term stability shouldn't be a problem. but keep the guitar in a place where the relative humidity is between 45-55%.Dry air is probably the 2nd leading cause of guitar damage (right behind excessive heat).

Oh yeah, the repairs shouldn't affect any future re-fretting.
