Got a chance to hear John Sebastian and Roger McGuinn last night. Interesting show. I never realized what a great guitar player Roger McGuinn is.

The most interesting thing was they mic'd Roger's Martins without pickups in them. He really could have used an Ovation. He was also using a monitor/mic combo in his ear that did a good job of picking up the lyrics but not very good tonal quality. Mybe I'm just used to the SM58 sound. The Rickenbacker 12 string sounded great!

John Sebastian's tunes brought back lots of memorys and once again, I never realized how good he is on a mouth harp. The best part of his performance was the history of his song and how he "stole" this tune or that one from so and so.

All in all, it was a great evening.

John Sebastian's father was one of the Harmonicats. John played the harp on the Doors Roadhouse blues. Since Jim Morrison was so screwed up back then and John S had the goody goody image from the Lovin Spoonful, management suggested it was best he was not credited....or at least that is how the legend goes!

I hear Jim is still pretty screwed up. Elvis and JFK are always having to cover for him and carry him to bed.

On CSN&Y's "DejaVu" album is a really great Neil Young song (actually a "suite" of songs) called "Country Girl". At the end is a very FAT-sounding, reverb-laden, gorgeous harmonica part that just swells up in the background - John Sebastian.
