The GC tape I bought finally showed up yesterday. Like I expected, most of it was *fast forward* after the first time through. Glen is a good singer, but not much better than lots of other singers (without a guitar in his hands), imo.
His guitar playing is something else entirely.
He played only 3 guitars in that show. Mostly he played a 12 string Viper. He played a 6 string Viper a little & a slot headed, round holed "I'm not familiar enough with models to ID it better than that" six string acoustic for Classical Gas. The Vipers were both a sort of blue burst sparkle. He played the William Tell Overture on the Viper 12 & that alone was worth the ten bucks I paid for the tape, WOW! DOUBLE WOW even!!
I'm going to be able to fill in some holes in my rather conservative attempts at Classical Gas too. Easy ten bucks worth. I don't remember who suggested that tape but thanks :)

Nils,

The blue sparkle vipers on the tape are called "Bluebirds" and made exclusively for Glen.
Go to the members gallery under "Bluebird" (OFC member,Wayne Reid) and see his collection of rare birds!! The slothead Glen plays Classical Gas on is a model 1613 Classic if the tape is in London at the Royal Festival Hall.

Actually, it's a Country Artist. Glen played those a lot during the 1970's.

YEP! Country Artist, Thanks Paul you're right! I had to pause the tape and count the frets :D
. . . .
Also noticed that the Country Artist he was playing had a GEN-U-WINE Glen Campbell signature truss rod cover!........Go figure!

Nils, click on this link for some info on what is probably the 12-string in the RFH video. Other than the shape and some hardware that is common to all Ovation electrics, it is quite a different animal from the Viper. There is also quite a bit of stuff archived on this site if you wish to do a search.

Actually, the Country Artist Glen used in that video was a custom / prototype with a different pickup configuration (probably a Baldwin p/u).

He had at least two different Country Artist models that he used throughout much of the seventies. The one in the Festival Hall video was more-or-less a stock CA, with the exception of the pickup system, gold tuners and the GEN-U-WINE Glen Campbell truss rod cover. His other one was pretty much identical, except his initials were inlaid at the 12th fret.

Jeff, I had noticed that the pickups on Glen's classical guitars from that period were indeed, different.
Does anyone else here have any info on whether these were the Baldwin equipped guitars?
Jeff, do you have a pic you could post? There was a promo pic from about '75 that showed one of these guitars (with a small flag on it) but I don't have one.

Wayne,

I've got the pic, the problem is I don't have a way to post it (my scanner isn't working). I'll try taking a "picture of the picture" and see if I can post it that way.

Definately not an Ovation pickup, most likely a Baldwin Prismatone. There's a pic of GC with this guitar in the 70's/80's owners manual, the one with the Custom Legend on the cover.
