| I was complaining about the action on my 12 string in another thread. I have been reading on some other boards (the "M" word forum and the "T" word forum) recently about drop tuning and how it remedies all sorts of maladies (vocal range or lack thereof, allows for heavier strings which sometimes improves tone, less tension on neck and top, easier to fret, etc.).
I thought I'd take a shot at lowering mine a full step to see how it works. I can always capo up to get back to concert pitch.
Is anyone doing this on their Ovations? |

Location: Yucaipa, California | A friend of mine has lowered his Custom Legend 12-string 1/2 step because of his fear of concert pitch tension ripping the face off the guitar! Just having the Ovation quality and design eliminates this concern...IMHO
I keep my Balladeer 12-string at concert and it plays like butter!

Location: Burbank | I could't agree more! I have a 6751 and keep it tuned to concert pitch and have no problems and it plays great. Too much goes on in my life to have to make it more complicated to remind myself that my 12 string is tuned different than my 6 string or my country artist! |

Location: SoCal | I wouldn't buy a 12-string that didn't have the strength for "normal" concert tuning. I have never had a problem with my CL 12's.
Another thing, back in the 70's, my Martin D-18 12-string (and several of my friends with other Martin models)just didn't sound clear when barred or with capo above the 3rd fret. Not a problem with the Ovations.
4th or 5th fret capo and a finger pick created a very nice effect with 3 6-strings on several folk-era songs. |

Location: Yucaipa, California | I play "Sweet By and By" capoed at the 7th fret and chord in "G" on my my Balladeer 12 and play "Scruggs Style" fingerpicking... sounds like a Harpsicord! gorgeous!!!

Location: Central Oregon | I have my 1858 tuned to concert pitch with Elixir 10's & it plays great! I took out one shim when I went from 12's to 10's but I didn't have to adjust the rod.
