I just came across "Have You Heard, Jim Croce Live" released on DVD. A great collection of rarely seen video of Jim. About 1/3 with Jim and Maury Muehlesen with their Ovations. The images and sound are excellent. Worth checking out.

It's hard to believe he's been gone for 30 years.

San Diego Union-Tribune, 10/12/03, did a major article on Ingrid and A.J. called "They've got a name." Article of 10/12 said "Tuesday will see the release of his first-ever DVD, 'Have You Heard Jim Croce Live,' and 'Jim Croce Home Recordings: Americana." Both co-produced by Ingrid and A.J. As some of you know, Ingrid remarried, has the restaurant Croce's in San Diego, and A.J. has four albums and has performed at the restaurant many times.

Good article, should be able to pull up on the web.

Thanks for mentioning this dvd. If I work a lot of overtime like I did last week, I treat myself to a new cd. About a month ago I was at Sam Goodies and started looking at some of the music dvd's. I bought James Taylor's Live at the Beacon Theater and really enjoyed it. I bought this dvd tonight and just finished watching it. It sure brought back a lot of memories from this time period in my life. The footage of him at his farm was great....as was the music. Jim Croce was sort of a working class hero and I'm glad to see his family doing well.

Yeah, thanx for the head's up on that one. I'll be lookin' for it.

When my partner Rick (who's about 15 years younger than me and grew up on 80's HairMetalShit) started to play out, I had suggested doing some Chapin and Croce songs. He busted my balls constantly that NOBODY'D wanna hear "Dead Guy Music" except "old fucks" like me .

One night we played about a set and a half and couldn't even get anyone to notice that we were even in the room. I broke into a couple uptempo Croce songs. Feet started tapping, people sang along on the choruses, a couple chicks started dancing by the pool table. We OWNED that crowd for the rest of the night.

At the end of the night after we got paid, I told him that I was feeling too much like an "old fuck" and thought it best that HE hump the gear out to the cars. :D

:D That was great, Cliff...thanks for sharing. Croce was great at connecting with his audience...his music was fun. He was a great story teller and talks about his truck driver friends and the roller derby queen on the dvd. It's music history and a keeper for sure.

ps the only thing that the kid at the music store knew about him was that Time In A Bottle was played at a lot of weddings...lol.

"Just the Way You Are" is one of the most overlyplayed wedding songs. Billy Joel has refused to play it at concerts for years simply for that very reason.

Sue would not allow us to use "you can't always get what you want" at our wedding.
We settled on a Joe cocker song that the band screwed up so bad all we did was laugh when we danced to it.

Don't most wedding bands do that?

Just be glad you had a band (and not a DJ) and a memory that will last you-
if a DJ played the record perfect version you couldn't look back and laugh.

(Not that I have anthing against DJ's, just PREFER bands at a wedding)
