I already knew www.frets.com, but this one is also very interesting:

http://www.mimf.com

It's the musical instrument makers forum. Handy BBS for those with questions regarding repairs etc.

That looks like a great site, I'm adding it to my favorites. That's what makes this site great.

I checked this site out and did a search on "Ovation"... some of the most blatent O-bashing I've heard. If someone does post a question about repair there, I would suggest you don't mention the "O" word.

I did mention Ovation and i was helped quite sympathetically.

I feel a good guitar is a good guitar, no matter what brand.

Some people in this forum talk about 'O-bashing', but mention guitars like taylor or martin in this very BBS and 9 out of 10 you'll get some "taylor-bashing" or "martin bashing". Personally i like my adamas, i liked my ovation but i equally like my mexican tele and my japanese ibanez.

Point is: at MIMF there are a bunch of good instrumentmakers willing to help. If you don't like their attitude, fine. If you do appreciate their efforts, fine too.

I aggree, good guitars are good guitars. The problem I have with Taylor is that I've yet to find one to get excited about, yet they are treated like the Holy Grail. Equally I've played & owned lots of great Ovations but the entire industry seems to see them as an anathema. A classic case of "Emperor's New Clothes"

I don't think a makers forum would have much knowledge of Ovations, they generally and by design are a factory made guitar. I wouldn't forgive their bashing, but I understand that not many luthiers are going to build a roundback guitar, that's OK, Ovation doesn't build many Rosewood acoustics either.

well, I read some of their discussions. Seems they are as divided as the rest of the world is about Ovations.

One side calling Ovations plastic, tupperware guitars. The Ovationists on MIMF call the others conservative snobs.
