...I see Paul Wag is still around, along with my old friends. I've been listening to a lot of James McMurtry, Charlie Robison, & The Derailers. Any fans out there? (Teksis Boys)

I'm a huge McMurtry fan, though I'm a little dissapointed with the latest "St Mary Of The Woods" album. Best thing I've heard all year is Pat McLaughlin's "Uncle Pat" CD.

Still alive and kicking. I like what I've heard of the new James McMurtry. Ever check out KERA 90.1 on Saturday nights? Abbie does a Texas music show and plays stuff like McMurtry and The Derailers, suff you don't hear on commercial radio...

Mr. Templeman....very sorry you didn't like St. Mary of the Woods. One of my audiophile buddies has a DAT recorder & has been rendering me live performances over the years. I just discovered a McMurtry tape he gave me a few years ago. Awesome. PaulWag - I knew you would get on the wagon here....I love PBS radio....we probably listen to it at the same time. I finally got my Charlie Robison CD with "John O'Reilly" on it....you gotta hear that one. Bless you guys, KD

I have to give the Derailers six thumbs up, they got some good recognition and kind of faded out of the limelight but they are great.

I liked it, but I thought the songwriting & playing on the previous 2 albums was a lot stronger.

Bailer - I most liked the Derailers' newer submission "She's so Fine" - very catchy tune. Paul Templeman - if you want to give me your address, I'll shoot you a copy of the live McMurtry recording he did for me. It was mid 90's in Euless Texas. You'll be the only guy in the UK to have it! It will be on cassette, as I've not yet experimented with my new computer's disc burning capabilities.

I might as well say it, even though it has no significance. McMurtry has a famous relative who is a favorite of mine in a different art form. I haven't heard any of James' music, but he seemed to be off to a good start a few years ago.

Swat, thanks for the offer, I'd love to hear that. I'll send my address. I'll have to listen to it in the car, I don't own any other cassette players anymore.

Bailey, it was Larry McMurtry who got his kid his first break. John Mellencamp commisioned Larry McMurtry to write the screenplay for his movie "Falling From Grace" Larry gave Mellencamp a tape of his son, & the rest as they say is history. The second McMurtry album "Candyland" which was produced by Mellancamp & has his band all over it, is killer.

Paul, I'm with you on "Candyland". If I'm not mistaken, his finest song "Levelland" is on that album. Every time I fly over the Panhandle I think of it.

p.c.

Great song, it was on "Where'd you Hide The Body"
his 3rd album.
