The band America is coming Down Under and I'm going, really looking forward to it.

Anyway, I watched pulled out an old concert of theirs from the late 70's and there were Ovations everywhere, 6 & 12 stringers and they sounded pretty darn good.

Unfortunately though, they're just one of countless groups who once used O's but have moved onto something else (Taylor) I really wonder why.

BTW, on their last tour they plated matching black Taylors and I'm sorry to say they sounded terrible and I'm a Taylor fan.

Ovation was the first & best acoustic-electric guitar, that's why almost everyone used it when we were young in the 70s. There are more options & competition is fierce now.

We keep hearing complains that Ovation gets no respect & that no one uses Ovation. How many of us have bought NEW Ovation in the past few years? If we don't buy, how do we expect Ovation to make money & have more marketing, e.g. sign up more famous artists?

I bought a new 1858-BCB Ovation a few months ago. Bought a used 1612-4 a few weeks ago. Love 'em both. I would have bought a second new one rather than the used one had I been quoted $975 the first time for a 2003 Collectors instead of the $1,400 I was quoted a few weeks earlier.

Good for you!! We need to support the factory by buying more Ovation, preferrably new ones. How do you like your new 1858? My friend just bought one for only $1100. He loves the guitar.

Where did you get the $1400 quote? That dealer must have thought that you were Japanese :)

Online stores are selling BRAND NEW ones for around $990, e.g.
www.musiciansfriend.com

A lot less if it's factory reconditioned & factory second.

Well I've bought several new O's in the past few years.

I personally believe that the quality of product they're producing is better than ever.

The 1687 Adamas I special ordered last year is the best O I've ever played or owned.

That's why I can't understand why they don't have a decent artist register.

I've bought two new Ovations in the last three years ... a 2000 collectors and a 6759 CL-12. Both are outstanding guitars. Can't wait to get the scoop on the new, secret Ovations so I can toss a few dollars alpep's way for something special.

I absolutely LOVE the 1858! I have light Elixirs on it & it plays really, really nicely. It sounded great unplugged too. Well, right up until I got my 1612 deep bowl, now it just sounds good. Plugged in it's really quite something. Terrific guitar. I paid $1,100 for it.

All my guitars are going to sound better in a few days cuz I'm going to buy a new amp as soon as I get paid Friday :) I'm going over to try out two of them *Get Bentz* jobs. One is a 25 watt & the other is a 50 watt. Not much price difference really. They're both acoustic amps. I saw the 25 last time I was over there but I didn't try either of them out yet. The 50 is supposed to be there any day. I can buy the 25 for $210 & the 50 for about $315. I'll probably get the 50 if it's fairly small.

I got the $1,400 quote for the 2003 from the same guy I bought the 1858 from. (Who is the same guy I'm buying the amp from.) Two or three weeks later (right after I bought my 1612 on the bay & it hadn't even arrived yet) he told me the Ovation guy had been in the day before. He said they were getting ready to start bringing out the 2004 Collectors model soon & he could sell me a 2003 for $975. Oh well, I really like the 1612 & it was only $361.
Last night I played my ES-175 for the first time since I got the 1612. I played through two songs I've been working on. (Unplugged) Then I played the same two songs on the 1612. (Also unplugged) I was a little embarrassed for the poor old Gibson. It's worth nearly ten times what I paid for the Ovation, & frankly, it sounded pretty blah in comparison. It was a tad easier to play, but that could be because it has new Elixir .12's on it. They were out of Elixir .12's when I bought the new strings for the O so I put D'Addario .11's on it. Compared to the Elixir .12's they're meat grinders. A new batch of strings is supposed to be coming in any day too....

I bought a CC01 two months ago. Yep, very small potatoes, but it's something. I'm in the market for an Ovation 12-string, and, as I have said (apologies if you're tired of hearing this) before, Ovation does NOT make exactly what I want now....I want a deep bowl, no cutaway, preferably no electronics....the only way to get this is to buy an old one, unfortunately. I may give in and buy a new 6751 Balladeer if I don't run across a nice clean 1115, GC 1118 or newer equivalent(at a reasonable price).

I played an $1100 Taylor 12-string at Guitar Center last night; it did not sound that good and it was much harder to play than the 6751s I've tried. Thumbs down on Taylors. As someone else said here before, they have no SOUL.

About 6-months ago I bought a Balladeer 6751-12 (Natural Finish) from Guitar Center (they didn't even know they had it on the wall!) and fell in love with it SOOOOOOOO much that about 3-weeks later I went down and bought a Balladeer S771 (Natural) 6-string!!!! (My wife is still shaking her head).

I have a great deal of trouble putting them down! I just gotta play 'em!!!

I have also found that the best sound I get out of an Amp is through my old Rickenbacher Bass amp (1-10")... big FAT sound!

I'm also in the process of acquiring a 2001 Collector's "Redwood" from Al... it's literally on its way. I'll let you know about that when it arrives.

Cliff,

It is scheduled to arrive here at work by Friday.... for some reason I can't concentrate on my job... keep sneaking peeks at the '01 RW pictures on the OFC Site!

I'll try to get some pictures uploaded when it arrives.

You sound like you are describing the new Slot Head Adamas when you describe your ideal Ovation, no electronics, deep bowl, no cutaway. You might want to try one when they become available.
