I just purchased an Ovation Ultra Deluxe 12 String off e-bay and I have NO idea how to tune a 12 string. My Ovation 6 String 1612 Custom Balladeer that I purchased in 1980 came with an owners manual (I still have it) that includes the standard pitch in cycles per second for a 12 string guitar based on A-440 but this gives me no clue how to tune a 12 string. How is it done? Do they make electronic tuners for 12 stings? If so anyone have a good source on the net? Thanks

You tune it just like a standard 6 string (EADGBE) except each "string is a pair, but the lower 4 pairs are tuned in octaves and the upper two pairs are tuned in unison. Dave

That's very clear Dave. The 1st E and 2nd E string are the tuned the same and the 3rd and 4th B strings are tuned the same. The other sets (5th through 12th pairs are an octave apart). So as Paul states any tuner will do. Never owned a 12 string so I never really knew. Thanks to both of you! Craig
