I'm watching CMT's Drinking Songs as I am logged on here, and they covered Roger Miller's Chug-a-Lug, and there he was playing a good looking Ovation.

I just checked Walter Carter's book on Ovation history, and no mention of Roger Miller. Wonder what vintage the footage is?

Roger played Ovations. Carter's book didn't mention everybody famous who played them. And Roger was never known as a great guitar player.

There was no time frame given, CMT was rating the top 50 drinking songs or some such thing, and Chug-a-Lug was right up there in the top few. Roger looked in his 40's or thereabout in the tape. They have been running that program quite a lot so if you watch you might see it. The Ovation was a Legend type and looked like a steel string even though Roger generally played nylon string guitars. He started his major career as a fiddle player for Ray Price or someone like that, and they discovered that he was a lousy fiddle player but a helluva song writer entertainer, so he might not be listed as a guitar star. Just a "Kansas City Star" that's what he war'.

There was a Deacon 12 on eBay a while back that was owned by Roger Miller, and included certification along with a sticker on the case from his performance on the "Midnight Special" TV show. I tried to buy it but the owner wanted way too much for it.

How much did he want? A Preacher 12 string just went for $800.
