Secondroy, I have a silmilar story. I had played the less expensive foreign made Ovations and thought the acoustic/unplugged sound was kinda ugly. I had given up on Ovation, but hadn't played an American made model. I read a review of the 1861 Balladeer in an Acoustic guitar archive review for "13 acoustic electrics under $1000" (or something like that). It had a very positive review. I checked it out and I judged it to be the best a/e value in tis price range, and I also discovered the difference in Ovation models that I didn't know about previously.

I believe an outstanding acoustic guitar is what every player wants for his/hers personal guitar that is played when the muse strikes and for personal satisfaction rather than on stage. It is especially gratifying if the guitar is professional quality that will stand up to playing on stage if that is required. I have my own personal acoustic that I have played for nearly 30 years and it is the only guitar I could not replace and would miss like my wife or dog if I lost it.
