Joined: November 2003 Posts: 6 | Hi, I have an Ovation 12-string Elite model no. 5858. (serial #: 442750) Can anyone guide me toward information about this guitar? I can't seem to find any reference of this particular model number. I purchased the guitar in early 1993 from Ward Brodt music in Madison, WI for what was then a pretty hefty price. I am contemplating selling it, but since I am having such a hard time finding this particular model listed anywhere I'd like to learn a little more about why! Thanks for any help! John

I've checked the various valuation books, but still cannot find this particular model. Does anyone have a rough guess of what I might get for it... on ebay or other avenues? It's in virtually brand-new condition...seeing very little use over the last 10 years. Thanks for any assistance. mrb

I've gone thru my 1991 catalog and 1994 catalog and while I can find an Elite Standard (six string, model number 6868 super shallow bowl), I can't find an Elite Special. I suspect that your guitar is the former, not the later. The Elite Standard was a plainer version of the regular Elite. No fretboard inlays, and pretty much one color wood (with different shadings) around the sound holes. For this guitar, that retail price is very high. Is it possible that that your guitar is the limited Elite that had the walnut top? A pic would help.

That's probably why I plunked down the cash as soon as I saw it! :) Plays & records great too!! Unfortunately I don't play it enough... I'm sure someone else around this site would be more deserving of it. If anyone's interested feel free to email me. Thanks! John

I'd much rather see the guitar go to an Ovation fan than Joe Blow on eBay trying to rip me off. It's "worth" a lot to me for several reasons, but I fully understand those reasons don't necessarily transfer to dollars and cents. Feel free to contact me via email and we can try to work something out. Thanks again, John

This year, I bought a like new 2000 black #6759 Custom Legend 12-string that was used on the 2000 Elton John Tour for $650 (on eBay.) That was a $2,400 list with the Optima p/u. An excellent 18 yr old 1659 Custom Legend 12-string for $385. What amount are you looking for? One option if you don't get a good offer off of the OFC, list on eBay with a high enough reserve but lower 1st bid...if you don't get the reserve, don't have to sell but with the lower 1st bid, you get bids and see interest. If doesn't sell now before Christmas, relist in January (after everyone knows what they had to spend for holidays.) Again, wonderful guitar.
