Where does one go to get a replacement saddle? Does Ovation sell them to Ovation guitar owners? I don't want to fashion one if I can buy one that's right for my model guitar (I realize that I may have to do some minor custom fitting).

I'd like to replace the nut also. Same answer? Thanks.

I went thru same thing. Look for my previous post on saddle replacement. Or as I call it --- the bone.

It's funny this post popped up. I was looking at this catalog earlier tonight.

I'm looking at doing a little saddle work on my 1116-4. The action is too high. It's a very simple saddle though when compared to most.

This is a '00 Balladeer Special S771. Saddle and nut are fairly thin in appearance.

I asked a local repair guy to remove a shim when he did the initial set-up. Instead, he "shaped" the saddle to suit the radius of the fretboard. Not a bad idea, but he removed too much material and now I have some dull treble strings and buzz around the neck joint. I'd shim it but there's already 2 shims and not much slot left as it is.

Are these plastic? I read previous posts on this subject and was surprised to read that Ovation uses plastic for saddles and nuts.

Never done this myself and hate to waste the time learning. That's why I'm interested in prefab from Ovation. Should I call or email them? I'm not the original owner of this guitar (if that matters). Thanks again.

This is why you should only have work done on Ovations by people who have at least half a clue what they're doing. Your guitar has a CP100 Thinline pickup. While it appears to be an undersaddle type, it's not, the piezos are bonded to the saddle and it is not advisable to remove material from the top of saddle. If all shims were out & the action needed to go down then he should have routed the saddle-slot, not re-profiled the pickup. You can't just replace the saddle, you have to replace the entire saddle/pickup assembly. The nut is a simpler matter. Any good repair shop can make a nice bone nut for $30-40, though I probably wouldn't trust the guy who bodged your pickup.

A strong vocalberry is a bodge of honor.

The tragic saga of a bodged bone. Don't let the bodger touch your nut. Or you'll have to call the vice squad. I've learned the hard way too, but learning how to do repairs, even if you don't do them, isn't a waste of time. Good luck.
